The forums shot me down saying that it was a bad idea and wasn't needed. For instance, a real TR-808 has a certain sound when the decays of the kick drum overlap. I guess around 10 years ago when UA had the deal with Roland and came out with the Space Echo and Dimension D, I suggested UA use it's expertise to make accurate emulations of Roland drum machines since samples don't completely capture what I remember the original hardware sounding like. If you notice most of the newer plugs are guitar-oriented or pre-amp emulations. UAD is really focused on recording and mixing acoustic based stuff. But.like I said it's probably overkill for electronic music unless you have some training and are doing higher profile mixing or mastering. Let me also say that $300 for a highly-detailed emulation of a $4000 bus-compressor that has the endorsement of the original manufacturer (that it operates the same and sounds really, really close to the hardware) sounds about right. they give out coupons regularly too which really helps bring down the price. this is with the sale + several coupons I had. during last year's sale, I was able to get this same bus compressor for less than $99. You also get extra discounts if you already own their stuff. Sign up for their mailing list to stay informed. They also do a really good summer and Black Friday sales, every year without fail. And in an oversaturated market with a one in a million chance of getting anywhere or making any money from this, saving money and being frugal goes a long way. whether you're paying at full price or at a discounted price. No matter what, you're supporting the developer either way. Don't fucking buy at full price ever, that's what sales are for. One has to be completely desperate or completely stupid to pay $299 for a bus compressor plugin. and the Unison stuff is exclusive for the UAD platform, no other plugins have this capability, so this is definitely worth something paying for.įirst of all, only a complete fool would buy plugins at full price. The other benefit is when using their Unison plugins that add another level or circuitry modelling. Their main strength is that they run solely on the UAD hardware, so you're saving on CPU power. so they're not actually the 'be all end all' when it comes to plugins. There are several other plugin options that can do exactly what they do. I have only a handful of their stuff, and demoed/researched extensively before even buying them. I'm a big fan of UAD, don't get me wrong, but I'm also a smart consumer.
